Eldercare III 6:00 PM, Tuesday, November 13 Jodi Clock will talk about different aspects of Eldercare in a three part series. She will be covering end- of-life issues, Medicare, and other topics pertinent to Eldercare.

Tech Wednesday-Facebook 2:30 pm, Wednesday, November 14 Tech Wednesdays are 30-60 minute long mini watch-and-learn classes on technical topics. They are held in the Julia Hackley Room twice a month at 2:30 pm and are free and open to the public. Feel free to bring your own laptop and follow along.

Good Yarn Knitters 5:30 – 7:00 pm, Wednesday, November 14 Meets in the Julia Hackley Room All levels of knitters are welcome, including beginners. Come to learn how to knit, have a problem solved, or just for camaraderie. If you are just starting out, bring a pair of size 7 or 8 needles and a light colored ball of worsted weight yarn, otherwise bring your latest project or your problem project. Thanksgiving Craft 2:00 pm, Saturday, November 17 We're celebrating the holiday with some fun Thanksgiving Day crafts. Join us as we make a turkey, color in some coloring sheets, and make a tasty Thanksgiving Day treat.

Grand Reopening 2:00 pm, Saturday, November 17 Children’s Department Re-Opening Celebration A public open house to show off the renovated and repaired Youth Services department at the Hackley Public Library will be held on Saturday, November 17 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. A brief ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 3:00. Thanksgiving craft activities for children will be held continuously during the open house. The department has been repainted and re-carpeted, lead abatement work completed, new lighting installed, electrical systems updated and preschool sized furniture added to the area for young children. Much-needed storage cabinets have been installed and the circulation desk was rebuilt to accommodate computers instead of 3” x 5” cards. The work done so far has not included the renovation of the rest room, which will make it accessible to all children, nor the addition of an emergency exit. That work will begin late this winter. Funds for this work were raised by the Friends of Hackley Public Library. Support has been received from numerous individuals, families, companies and foundations. The renovation of the cheerful story time room was underwritten by the Louis and Helen Padnos Foundation and the new area for young children will be named in honor of Lloyd D. Krause. The Gerber Foundation, the Christa-Jessi-Jael Fund at the Community Foundation for Muskegon County, Maureen and Norman Campbell, Josephine and George Anacker, and Kathleen and I. John Snider have also provided major support for the renovation of the children‘s area. Children’s programs are underwritten by the Alcoa Foundation. Family programs are underwritten by the PNC Foundation. The upgrading of the Youth Services Department is part of the first phase of the Hackley Library’s “Building of Character” project. Additional work will include replacement of all restrooms, an additional emergency exit, replacement of inefficient and ineffective lighting, and electrical upgrades, as well as painting, plaster repair, and flooring. The additional work will begin in late winter. The goal of the project is a community library that is functional, accessible, welcoming, safe and comfortable. The “Building of Character” campaign was chaired by the Muskegon Chronicle’s Steve Westphal. Architectural and design services were provided by Fishbeck, Thompson, Carr and Huber. Port City Construction served as construction managers. Contractors included Patron Construction Inc., Dimension Four Painting Inc., West Coast Interiors, Erickson Electrical Service, and Sobie Company. Library Design Associates, Interphase and WorkSquared provided furnishings.
