Troy Phelan is a self-made billionaire, one of the richest men in the United States. He is also eccentric, reclusive, confined to a wheelchair, and looking for a way to die. His heirs, to no one's surprise--especially Troy's--are circling like vultures.
Nate O'Riley is a high-octane Washington litigator who's lived too hard, too fast, for too long. His second marriage in a shambles, and he is emerging from his fourth stay in rehab armed with little more than his fragile sobriety, good intentions, and resilient sense of humor. Returning to the real world is always difficult, but this time it's going to be murder.
Rachel Lane is a young woman who chose to give her life to God, who walked away from the modern world with all its strivings and trappings and encumbrances, and went to live and work with a primitive tribe of Indians in the deepest jungles of Brazil.
In a story that mixes legal suspense with a remarkable adventure, their lives are forever altered by the startling secret of The Testament.

John Grisham's friend Carl , a Baptist Missionary, took him to the Pantanal region of Brazil.  The experience compelled him to weave a story combining the beauty of the rain forest, which included a great respect for the indigenous tribes of the area, with the legal woes of America.  He offered great descriptions of Brazil with both the beauty and terror of the rain forest.  This contrast of people happily living on bananas to a a family who experienced material wealth in America but knew no joy was very well done.  His lititous back drop was very compelling as the drama unfolded both in the jungle and in the court room.

Her husband, Roger, has grown a paunch, lost interest in sex, and seems allergic to conversation. What's a disgruntled wife to do? She scores an appointment with a Beverly Hills doctor to the stars who sells her a miracle packet of herbs. All she has to do is slip them in Roger's orange juice and he'll go from dud to stud. Little does she know that perfection-especially when it comes to husbands-is highly overrated.
Offered to its readers in a "chick flick" style complete with shopping in CA, The Secret Ingredient was a fairly predictable folly of marital mishap.  There may be readers who enjoy fantasy that involves much more "style" development than plot, you will be happy to join in a romp of housewives who stage a "break in" but on no-they all are wearing heels and can't escape the police.  Filled with boutiques, trendy restaurents in LA, and celebrity watching, it may provide escapism for readers who enjoy "Desperate Housewives"-type genre.
