Act Now To Avoid Having Utilities Shut Off This Winter

Act Now To Avoid Having Utilities Shut Off This Winter: From the Red Tape blog:
Dramatic cuts in state and federal dollars for home heating assistance programs could hurt low income people who face heat shut-offs this winter, officials say.

The Michigan Public Service Commission has urged residents who are qualified to contact their utility to sign up for programs meant to avoid a shut-off with the lack of funds available, said Judy Palnau, an agency spokeswoman.

“As long as they are abiding by the rule of the program, they can avoid shut-off,” she said. Information on the programs are available at www.michigan.gov/bewinterwise.
